The Discipline Policy incorporates the ‘Core Rules in NSW Government Schools’

The Core Rules

- Attend every school day, unless they are legally excused, and be in class on time and prepared to learn.

- Maintain a neat appearance, including adhering to the requirements of the school’s uniform or dress code policy.

- Behave safely, considerately and responsibly, including when travelling to and from school

- Show respect at all times for teachers, other school staff, including following class rules, speaking courteously and co-operating with instructions and learning activities.

- Treat one another with dignity and respect.

2.11.5 Guidelines:

CBPS DISCIPLINE CODE OR SCHOOL RULES

Cullen Bullen Public School is a PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school. PBL establishes the link between research-validated practices, and the environments which teaching and learning occurs. These core behavioural expectations apply to all settings across the school, to students and all staff.

There are 3 school-wide expectations at CBPS:

1. We are SAFE

2. We are RESPECTFUL

3. We are RESPONSIBLE

PBL is based on proactive and positive approaches to behaviour management for all students. It is a program based on modelling, teaching and practising positive behaviours.

A significant aspect of PBL is the explicit teaching of expected behaviour. Expected behaviours are taught, practised and celebrated. A matrix has been devised by the school community that emphasises the expected behaviour. Visual aids are used to also communicate the message of PBL.

STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES TO MANAGE INAPPROPRIATE STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

In consultation with CBPS staff, the school has categorised problem behaviours as teacher managed or executive/Principal managed. Examples of Teacher managed/executive/Principal managed behaviours

To ensure consistency in the management of problem behaviours, the CBPS staff have developed the following behaviour flow charts. Teachers are expected to use the flow charts for any situation where problem behaviour occurs. The flow charts include possible supportive strategies and redirections to encourage students to amend their behaviour choice.

Consequences for problems behaviours are designed to ensure students are supported to develop the skills of self-regulation. Consequences must be predictable and consistent.

For students needing extra behaviour support, individual behaviour support plans will be developed. These students will be identified by the (LST teacher, School Counsellor and Principal). Plans will be developed in consultation with the Classroom teacher, LST, Principal, parents, caregivers and students.

CBPS NCI Student Management Plan

Staff have been trained in NCI processes and restraints. Should a situation arise where physical restraint is appropriate, NCI practice is to be followed.

2.11.6 Responsibility

The school discipline policy has been developed to ensure a safe, secure and harmonious work environment. It is the responsibility of all staff to adhere to the school’s discipline policy.
