Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school-wide program that actively promotes and encourages positive behaviour. It allows students to develop a clear understanding of required expectations, become responsible for their own behaviour, make academic progress and work together to create a positive, safe and supporting learning environment.
Our school-wide expectations, Safe, Respectful and Responsible, are represented with a mascot derived from the local Cullen Bullen Copperwing butterfly.
At weekly staff meetings our PBL team analyses data to identify specific areas for staff and students to focus on each week. This will then be followed with explicit teaching on the subject and continued support throughout the week to encourage positive behaviours and check that expectations are met.
At Cullen Bullen Public School our school wide PBL approach provides students and staff with a safe environment that promotes positivity in learning while maintaining clear and achievable expectations.
Rewarding positive behaviour
How is Positive Behaviour Rewarded?
In the classroom and playground, staff use coloured (red, blue and yellow) butterflies when they observe students displaying positive behaviours and following school expectations.
Once a week, if the required number of butterflies are collected, students are then able to trade them in for a special activity.
All butterflies that are received during the week are collected. If the agreed target amount is achieved at the end of the term students get to celebrate with a whole school reward.
